Discover the Benefits of a Glass Veranda for Your Home or Business

A glass veranda may well be the perfect outdoor weather protection system for the average British weather during any given year. 100% waterproof ceiling, which you can also see through and get all the natural light.

Sit in comfort outside with your favourite book and drink, regardless of showers or the annoying drizzly rain we often get in the summertime. Make the rain your entertainment….

Think of a glass veranda as an easy extension to your home living space, seamlessly integrating with your home and patio/doorway.

Walk outside your home even when it is raining and take in the views, your own garden and the fresh outside air.

Add some lights and sit outside into the evenings.

Add a retractable fabric blind under the roof and sit outside in the midday sun protected from the heat and intense brightness.

Add a side blind to protect from the prevailing winds. Keep adding the sides and you end up with an outdoor room. Most of our standard and bespoke glass verandas are built to take additional front and side elements at a later date. They are modular by design

Luxury or Basic Systems?

You will see a big difference in the prices of certain models and in the spirit of transparency it is quite easy to explain with these systems as they are aluminium and glass structures. Obviously there are differences in designs, styles and maybe glass thickness used, bearing in mind we try to offer the systems without glass as it is easier for customers to source glass locally with the difficulties in transporting glass generally and weight involved too. Most glass verandas will require 8.8 - 10.8mm laminated glass for maximum safety and best performance. The real differences in pricing generally boils down to the amount of aluminium material used in the framework structure overall. Literally you get more material for your money on more expensive systems, plus some niceties in things like the seals, hardware and connection systems used and other unseen components. Everything makes a difference to the price - size and strength of the profiles, the design of the roof bars and so on. A more expensive glass veranda will overall be stronger and better equipped to add more options and thicker glass sections. The designs are important to many customers and the devil is in the detail here, by looking closely at the roof bar styles. Do the roof bars raise up above the glass with some design, or sit mainly under the glass sections underneath the roof? A big difference in the aesthetics, which is relevant to the size and colour and house style you are building the veranda onto. We will be adding more glass verandas over time to our website so please email or call if what you want isn't immediately obvious or showing on our site.. We also have specified some popular standard sizes which suit many properties and these are available with a predefined specification but you can choose the colour you require as they are still made to order for you.

Colours and Finishes

One of the biggest differences you might notice with the many glass verandas on the UK market is there are often only 2 or 3 standard colours available. This is because they are imported in large quantities pre finished in these colours and in stock length profiles. Fine if you happen to want that colour and we do have those in our online shop with the Deponti and Morvelle range, but what if you want something different?

The Weinor Terrazza, German manufactured system is offered in a standard range of 47 powdercoat colours, but also in the tougher and more interesting textured special finishes, of which there are 9 currently.

These textured finishes used to be an additional cost but now are not and offer a thicker, more durable matt type finish in darker colours generally. These finishes we have found to be far more resilient to the knocks and scratches which may occur in daily life..

For the process of colour finishing with the luxury brands and models, generally the structure is manufactured before the painting process takes place so they are not created from stock parts in standard, lighter gauge paint finishes.

Enhance Your Outdoor Space

The glass veranda in many cases is just the start for many people and other products are added as you establish your new outdoor living area. We see many customers having the veranda along with new outdoor furniture and accessories, but then after using the area for a while realise there is an annoying prevailing wind, or maybe the sun gets under the roof and in the eyes at a certain time of day. Maybe the rainfall drifts in with the prevailing wind and makes one side unusable in the rain? You can buy many different products to tackle these issues one by one or all at once.

Wind Control

For preventing annoying cooling breezes take the pleasure out of your outdoor area look at either vertical fabric blinds fitted to the front and/or sides of your veranda. For the sides you will need to add in a trapezium infill section to create a horizontal fixing point under the angled side profile of the roof first. So to close in one side, assuming it is a lean to product, you need the infill section framework and then the vertical blind system.

This same infill section is required if you want to use a sliding glass wall system on a side. Sliding glass doors will give great rain and wind protection with full vision and can open up to provide air flow when necessary. Fitting these to the front of the veranda rarely needs any other parts but you do still need a good solid level floor to run the sliding glass tracking onto.

You can also purchase either a retractable fabric side blind or one of the very cool vertical resign glass windbreaker systems we offer online. You have a free standing system, which has a fixed section of glass at about waist height, then a secondary, rising glass panel when required to double the height and give wind and rain protection. The great thing about these is you can relocate and also make something of the lower section as a planter for flowers or other plants.

Sun, Light and Solar Heat Gain Control

The most popular accessory for any glass veranda, especially which faces South or West, will be an underglass retractable fabric roof blind, also available for on top of the roof when necessary. Electrically operated and made to measure, this fabric blind will extend to cover and shade the entire glass roof when necessary and control light, heat and glare in the summer months. A massive choice of fabrics are available and the same for the side blinds too. Control low sun and privacy with vertical blinds to the front and/or sides.

Again, most blinds are electric operated and use a zipped side track system in order to have higher wind ratings and also deal with rainfall better.. Some manufacturers offer very clever perforated materials to provide some vision from inside whilst maintaining the protection still when in use.

Rain Control

Most customers find that either adding in a solid glass section to one side which is exposed to the prevailing wind is a great solution. Sliding glass walls will also do the same job of course as well as the solid aluminium infills available to provide privacy and some noise reduction too.
Rain can be controlled with either the fabric blinds, the glass doors and a range of solid infills to the sides and or front. Nothing is guaranteed 100% waterproof apart from the glass roof of course because this is an outdoor room, but preventing most of the driving rain is what is required to make the area comfortable
